The Trojan's Must-Dash 2.5 Miler (Race Report)

May was a busy racing month for me. June looks to be a little less hectic, although you wouldn't know it as I kicked things off today, June 1st, with a little 2.5 jaunt around the lake at Mt. Pisgah State Park.

A surprisingly strong crowd of around 300, by my estimate, came out for the rare Sunday afternoon trail race - including a strong contingent of younger runners. The Trojan's Must-Dash trail run was put on by the various sports teams at nearby Troy High School, and as one would expect the Cross Country team was out in force.

It was a polar opposite scene from Sunday morning, May 18th, when The Chief Wetona Challenge (RACE REPORT) owned the trails. Where that day had been cool, with trails slick with mud, today the temperature soared into the upper 70's and the trails were nearly mud free.

But the two races also had some similarities. Both utilized the Poolside Pavilion for registration, and placed their starting lines near the boat launch at the edge of the lake. The courses were also similar. Today's race circumnavigated the lake on the “Oh Susanna” trail. The first loop of the Chief Wetona Challenge also circumnavigated the lake in this manner, but added a steep climb to the Hill Top Pavilion / Nature Center before dropping back down to Oh Susanna.

It took me 18:45 to traverse the course with its 200ft of rolling elevation gain. Good enough for 11th place overall. I raced in a pair of Columbia Ravenous (REVIEW), a shoe which I like more now than I did when I originally reviewed them last summer. I also wore this shoe yesterday for the 5th Annual Race For Chase 5k Trail Run (RACE REPORT).

Oh, did I mention a couple hundred people running around with fake mustaches? Yeah, the race had that too.

Garmin Report for today's Race: HERE
Distance: 2.47 mi
Time: 18:45
Avg Pace: 7:35 min/mi
Elevation Gain:  205ft
