Mutt Strut 5k 2015 (Race Report)

Locally, the month of May is supersaturated with opportunities to race, so this morning I toed the starting line The Mutt Strut 5k, the latest addition to the calendar, and chance to get the competitive juices flowing before tomorrow's Chief Wetona Challenge Half Marathon.

The field was small (65 competitors), and the entry fee perhaps a little on the steep side, but with the proceeds going to the local Animal Care Sanctuary I had no qualms about shelling out the $35.

The race began and finished at Riverfront Park, a road run with a grass finish through the Integrity Sports finish arch. I ran the first half mile or so with eventual winner Abe Nichols, but was no match for his 18:47. From there on out I ran alone, notching a 20:24 on the official clock.

I've been throwing some speed work into my training in the last month, and with today's favorable conditions it seems to be paying off.
