HopBack Amber Ale (review)

Hey beer geeks. Ready for another review? Sitting before me today is a bottle of Troegs (facebook) HopBack Amber Ale (website). Troegs Brewing Company (wiki) was founded in Central Pennsylvania (Harrisburg) in 1996 by brothers John and Chris Trogner and moved to Hershey Pa in 2011.

Weighing in a 6.0% ABV and 55 IBUs HopBack Amber Ale is infused with fresh hop cones as it leaves the brew kettle though a "Hopback" in route to the fermenter.

HopBack Amber Ale has all the bitter hoppy goodness I love in an IPA, and that's exactly what you'd have if left out the Munich malts which lend it bready, caramel undertones, to go along with the spiciness of  (Cascade, Williamette, Nugget, Crystal) those plentiful hops. The result is a well balanced beer that should please fans from both ends of the beer spectrum.

As you might expect, HopBack pours Amber (like the color of that dried sap they dig the Dino DNA out of in Jurassic Park). Foam was off-white and created only a small head when poured from a chilled 12oz bottle into my totally unsophisticated beer glass.
