Troegs Perpetual IPA

I previously reviewed superb central Pennsylvania brewed Troegs HopBack Amber Ale. Today I'm having a taste of their Perpetual IPA, an equally superb Imperial IPA from Troegs, one of the state's best breweries.  As usual, I purchased this product from The Jolly Farmer.

In contrast to many IPA's I've had recently, which are amber in color, this Pale Ale is truly pale, pouring straw/golden thanks its Pilsner and Crystal malts, and these lighter malts are reflected in the flavor which is (thankfully) big on hops (Bravo, Chinook, Mt. Hood, Nugget, Citra, Cascade) without a lot of background noise to muddle the experience. That said, for a beer coming in at 7.5% ABV and 85 IBU's Tröegs Perpetual IPA is more drinkable than its specs belie, managing somehow to be both amply bitter as well as smooth.

Aroma is citrusy, and sweet. Taste: grapefruit, orange peel and a pine- heavy finish.

Musical Pairing: Light of Day, Day of Darkness by Green Carnation
