Stone Imperial Russian Stout (review)

Beer Review #83

Its been 8 or 9 reviews since my last Imperial Stout, and far longer since my last Stone Brewing beer so tonight I'm checking out Stone Imperial Russian Stout. This particular 22 ounce bottle made its debut in March 2015. I picked it up on the shelves of The Jolly Farmer, Waverly NY

10.6% ABV, Warrior Hops. Stone Imperial Russian Stout pours pitch black with a frothy head of tan foam. The aroma is big coffee and smoke. The taste follows suit - coffee, smoke, along with hints of chocolate and licorice. The overall effect is a dark, smoked, tangy stout reminiscent of Edmund Fitzgerald Stout, albeit with a thicker, fuller mouth-feel and warmer alcohol back end.

Musical Pairing: Faustian Echoes by Agalloch
