Beer Review #92
reviewed a coffee stout, but what I was really in the mood for was something nice and hoppy . Luckily, Nuggget Nectar, the once a year Imperial Amber Ale from Troegs Independent Brewing hit shelves this week. With the brewer located just a few hours to the south, i guess this is just about as fresh as they come, and it certainly shows. To date, I've reviewed a number of different Troegs beers. This one compares well with their Hopback Amber Ale (Review #26), and Perpetual IPA (Review #35). The latter is a personal favorite of mine.
Nugget Nectar pours transparent amber-orange a nice white head of glass-hugging foam. But by far the most pleasing aspect of this beer is the aroma, which screams mango and peach with a hint of pine and perhaps just a touch of alcohol, although the ABV is only 7.5%.
With a stated IBU of 93, Nugget Nectar is thoroughly bitter thanks to Nugget, Palisade, Simcoe, Tomahawk and Warrior hops, but where the aroma leads with a pleasant fruitiness the flavor has a more pronounced pine character, with just a hint of malt sweetness as you swallow.
