I did not run well on Saturday in the Pound the Ground For Ultrasound 10k (race report) and had little expectation that today's shorter, faster run would be any different. Much to my surprise (and delight), a half mile or so after a conservative start, things began to click and I found myself moving up the field in route to a 23:56 9th place finish, which was good enough for 2nd in age group and a great local prize (16 oz of local Raw Honey that will go great in my next home brew).
The real thrill of the day was seeing so many young runners out on the trails, especially the 8 year old with impeccable form who out kicked me to the finish.
Nothing like a little sunshine, trails, charity, running and good folks to cleanse the spirit. I'm ready for the new week.
