Three Heads Tropical Kind Double IPA (review)

Beer Review #187

Hello, hello! Welcome back to another edition of Beer Porn & More. In today's episode I'm taking a taste of Tropical Kind Double IPA from Three Heads Brewing. This New York State brewed double India Pale ale features mango and passion fruit to take on a tropical theme.

Weighing in at a respectable 8.7% ABV this orange-amber DIPA yields a few scant fingers of quickly dissipating white foam, magnifying-glass like clarity, a medium-light body and a moderate push of carbonation.

The aroma is unexpectedly, and pleasantly tropical in nature with a wallop of passion fruit, mango, and a citrus tingle that give way to only hints of pine and malt, but you really have to look for them.

But what about flavor? Big aromatic tropical IPA's usually pack more fruit in the aroma than the pallet, and this one is no exception. That passion fruit, mango, and even fuzzy peach-like elements do indeed strike first, but quickly give way to floral and earthy hops. A hint of pine follows on the finish.
